Montage Table
December 2016
a day of conversation and making

As part of the Northern Charter Studio Artists present series, I invited five artists, Tess Denman-Cleaver, Nadia Hebson, Catrin Huber, Alexandra Hughes and Fiona Larkin, to have a conversation exploring their practice in relation to the temporal and active process of montage.

While introducing and sharing material from our individual practices, we discussed the process and nature of making and montage; the role of intuition; the sense of the inexhaustible and the undisclosed; the presence of the author; apertures and folding into; fluidity and frames: repetition and emptying out.

Reflecting on these themes and connections drawn through our conversation, we used material which each artist had brought with them to make together a group of montage pieces. This collaborative work was open to the public in the evening.
